Stuart Manifold is the Industry Skills Development Leader for GE ANZ leading the development of the Jandakot technical centre of learning including the AQTF accreditation process, development of internal competency structures and the formulation, implementation of "Communities of Technical Best Practices" across Australia in co-operation with oil and gas Industry and stakeholder community members to address the resource skill shortage. 

Stuart Reports to the Vice President of Strategy and Growth for GE Australia and New Zealand.

Prior to joining GE, Stuart was the Managing Director of Risktec Australasia a Crisis and Emergency Response Training and Consulting business with training centres located in, Perth Jakarta, Singapore Cairo and Baku. Major clients included BP, Transocean, Conoco, Australian FPSO, JVPC amongst others.

'Retaining FIFO workers through good preparation'

Dani spent 21 years living and working in the Pilbara region of Western Australia and her experience as President of the Shire of Roebourne (2004-2006) started Dani on her journey of seeking to maximise community benefit as a result of resource projects whilst minimising potential negative impacts.  Dani joined Rio Tinto Iron Ore in 2006 as Manager Towns and Partnerships, a role which gave Dani to the opportunity to view the word 'from the other side'.  Since leaving Rio Tinto in 2009, Dani has worked with Local Governments, Government Departments, Aboriginal Corporations and resource industry clients providing consulting services in the areas of Social Impact, Community Engagement and Indigenous Participation.

Dani is currently the National Manager of Social Consulting Services for WorleyParsons in Western Australia.  Recent projects include working with Indigenous groups in the Kimberley region of Western Australia along with developing social impact and Indigenous participation management plans for international engineering, procurement and construction consortia.  Dani has worked extensively on workforce management and accommodation plans for LNG projects in Queensland and Western Australia.

Dani's global experience includes a Social Impact Assessment in Timor Leste, an Iron Ore project in Sierra Leone and an LNG design project led out of Japan.  Dani has developed and adopted social performance management frameworks consistent with Good International Industry Practise (GIIP) and including IFC standards in order to ensure a consistent approach to government compliance across global projects.

Francis Norman is Engineering Manager with Kvaerner Oil & Gas Australia, he holds a HNC in Industrial Measurement and Control from Middlesbrough University, and an MSc in Project Management from Curtin University. He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a member of the Australian Institute of Project Management.  Francis is currently pursuing a part time Ph.D investigating interpersonal communications in international virtual project teams.

Francis is also a member of the Public Policy Subcommittee of the Western Australian division of Engineers Australia, who commissioned the Engineering WA 2020 report.

Kvaerner Oil & Gas Australia

Francis Norman is Engineering Manager with Kvaerner Oil & Gas Australia, Francis has had a 30 year career with Kvaerner; having joined what was then the Davy McKee offices in the UK in 1983, with Davy being acquired by Kvaerner in the 1990's.  During his time with Kvaerner Francis has worked on EPC and EPCM projects for the steel industry, power production, mining and mineral processing and onshore and offshore oil and gas. Francis has worked in the UK, India, Brazil, Germany, South Korea, Norway and Australia, he moved to Australia in 1993 and has been based in Perth since 2002.

Hitoshi joined INPEX CORPORATION (formerly known as Indonesia Petroleum, Ltd) in 1994 following ten years with Japan China Oil Development Company in various domestic and international assignments.

In 1998, following four years in the Accounting & Finance Division at INPEX Tokyo head office, Hitoshi transferred to INPEX Browse Ltd, joining the inaugural Perth office team.

Hitoshi returned to Tokyo office in 2002, taking on managerial roles in the Planning & New Ventures Department and Corporate Strategy & Administration Division over three years.

In 2005, Hitoshi returned once again to Perth to oversee Commercial & Corporate Coordination. He assumed his current role as Director, Corporate Coordination in 2009.

Craig Pasch is the Manager of Indigenous Affairs at Woodside and co-chair of the IPIECA Indigenous Peoples Taskforce.

Craig has a Master of Business Administration, Graduate Diploma of Sport Management and a Bachelor of Education.

In 2007 Craig was awarded a Vincent Fairfax Fellowship through the St James Ethics Centre.

Craig has an extensive community development background that has included work roles in Wadeye and Katherine in the Northern Territory and various townships in South Africa, Botswana and Malawi.

Craig is married with three children and in his spare time trains and competes in the Rottnest Channel swim.

Catharine joined Clough in May 2012 as Executive Vice President, People and Organisation Development, and is responsible for working with Clough's Board and leadership team to develop the frameworks, policies and strategies required to enhance and sustain a high performance culture, especially during periods of growth and change.  

Catharine has extensive experience in the engineering and construction industry, traversing contracting and maintenance services.  Prior to joining Clough, Catharine held senior Human Resources and Change Management positions with Hastie Group in Australia, and Murray & Roberts in South Africa.  She specialises in working alongside Boards and senior executive teams to undertake agendas that optimise organisation design by aligning people and culture with business and commercial strategy.

Prior to joining the engineering and construction industry, Catharine was a lecturer in Psychology at the University of South Africa, where she instructed and supervised post graduates in various fields of psychology, including optimal functioning, managing change and understanding human systems.

With more than 23 years experience in the contracting industry with John Holland, and as part of the Group Executive, Brendan leads the development and operations of the company in the Energy and Resources sector.

The Energy and Resources stream in John Holland comprises four separate business units that focus on their respective sectors:.

  • John Holland Energy – focussing on oil & gas, petrochemical and power generation, transmission and distribution;
  • John Holland Water & Enviro – focussing on water treatment, desalination and distribution, waste treatment and emerging environmental technologies;
  • John Holland Minerals and Industrial – focussing on mine and port infrastructure, minerals processing and heavy industrial facilities; and
  • John Holland Mining – providing contract mining services to the coal and metalliferous sectors.


These businesses provide engineering, construction and operations management services to clients in the Energy and Resources sectors nationally. With a combined turnover of approx. $1.1 billion and a team of over 2000 , these businesses are a major contributor to the John Holland's turnover and an integral part of their growth strategy over the next few years.   

Brendan has the track record of building businesses through implementation of geographic and market sector diversification strategies combined with successful company acquisitions. As General Manager of the then Energy & Resources business unit, Brendan's team led the diversification strategy into the booming oil and gas sector and has since successfully secured major contracts both the domestic gas and LNG export sectors.

Brendan has extensive experience in leading teams in the execution of major oil and gas, resource and infrastructure projects under a range of contract delivery mechanisms and has been responsible for design and construction projects delivered on Lump Sum, Alliance, Cost Reimbursable / Schedule of Rates and a variety of Performance Incentive Contract models.

Recent major projects include: Gas processing facilities for Apache Energy; Export marine facilities for Rio Tinto at Cape Lambert, NQBP at Abbot Point & Prime Infrastructure at Dalrymple Bay; Alumina Refineries for Comalco in Gladstone and BHPB Aluminium at Worsley; Mine and Port infrastructure for BHPB Iron Ore at Newman, PWCS & NCIG at Newcastle and Barrick Gold at Cowal.

Brendan also has extensive experience with project Alliancing on construction projects having held the role as an Alliance Manager and has been a member of numerous Alliance Boards including the Horizon Alliance and Anvil Hill Infrastructure Alliance.

Safety Leadership throughout John Holland's operations has been Brendan's primary focus whilst building successful businesses. Brendan has developed and led key safety leadership and performance improvement initiatives focussing on management leadership, high risk activity management, governance and verification processes and effective employee engagement programs.

Brendan's commitment to developing John Holland's people is paramount as demonstrated through the leadership of John Holland's Executive Development Program, Supervisor Development Program, Engineers for the Future Initiative, National Graduate Program and the company's Apprentice program.

'The Aspiration Initiative (TAI) – providing opportunities and Richard is Director of the Aurora Project and is currently a Visiting Fellow at UNSW Law School and an Honorary Research Fellow at Monash University Law Faculty. Richard has also recently been appointed as an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology, Sydney.

During 2004, together with the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law, Richard undertook research into the challenges facing lawyers working at NTRBs. This led to a series of recommendations relating to the recruitment, retention and professional development needs of NTRB lawyers outlined in an April 2005 Report. The Aurora Project was established to implement, among other things, a number of programs which follow on from the recommendations in the Report.

Prior to his involvement in native title, Richard was based in London with Potok & Co. As part of his law reform work, he made presentations in 35 countries to governments, financial market participants and students on the need for legal reform in relation to indirectly held securities. He was Legal Advisor to the Hague Conference on Private International Law for the Hague Securities Convention that was finalised in December 2002. He has published in the area of conflict of laws, including as editor of a book comparing the law in 25 jurisdictions.

Since late 2009, Richard has been a Trustee and Executive Director of both the Charlie Perkins Trust for Children & Students and the Roberta Sykes Indigenous Education Foundation.

 Bronwyn Struthers is an organisational development specialists currently working for ERGT.

Bronwyn graduated with an honours degree in Psychology in 2003 and since then has worked in a number of people development roles supporting individuals, teams and organisations to maximise performance. Bronwyn has experience in a range of sectors including production, mining, government, prisons and retail.

Bronwyn's understanding of high-risk environments has led to an interest in mental health and its impact on workplace safety and productivity.

Bronwyn lives in Perth with her two teenage children and a picture of Aoraki (Mt Cook).

Dr Daria Surovtseva is Senior Lecturer at School of Engineering and IT and Deputy Director of the North Australian Centre for Oil and Gas at Charles Darwin University in the Northern Territory. She has been awarded PhD in Chemical Engineering from Curtin University in 2011.

She has track record in research of natural gas processing and LNG production, carbon capture, gas hydrates.

Her contribution to CDU is through the development of expertise in hydrocarbon processing and production, multiphase flow assurance and carbon mitigation within the Centre for Oil and Gas.
